Distributed computing

The interconnection of supercomputers over very high throughput networks makes it possible to manage a set of computing resources as a single resource. The deployment of RISQ's target infrastructure, IP data transfer protocols, and MPLS-VPN traffic management protocols allow us to conceive of sharing scarce and costly computing resources.

Thanks to RISQ's high-performance backbone, Quebec's computing centres – sometimes separated by hundreds of kilometres – will one day be able to cooperate in order to complete complex scientific computations in record time. The use of distributed computing, notably for graphical calculations, will spur the advancement of Quebec science and technology in numerous fields: industrial mechanics, environmental science, pharmaceutical chemistry, geophysics, scientific imagery, nanotechnology, astrophysics, genomics, etc.
