Level and Quality of Service
The architecture of an IP network is such that every packet of data is treated essentially equally. The transport of data is assured by the principle of "best efforts", and there is no formal guarantee of effectiveness and quality of service (QoS). But with modern networks' multiservice nature, some especially demanding applications cannot tolerate an essentially random level of service.
To handle this problem, RISQ uses MPLS-VPN technologies on its network; these technologies include mechanisms for controlling traffic, managing usage and managing levels of service, all of which allow different thresholds for guaranteeing performance. By using such technologies themselves, RISQ's members are able to implement and take control of high standards of service.
