A former Canadian diplomat posted in Beijing, and UN diplomat posted in Geneva, Claude-Yves Charron is serving as Vice-President of Academic Services and Technology Development since 2002 and InterimVice-President of Research and Creation of UQAM in 2008. He also served as Special Advisor to the President of Treasury Board Canada for the C “Government-on-Line” Initiative, from 1999 to 2002, and as member of the Organizing Committee for the UN World Summit on the Information Society (Geneva, 2003, Tunis, 2005). He is presently a High Level Advisor to the UN Global Alliance for Information and Communications Technologies for Development, and General Secretary of ORBICOM, the International Network of UNESCO Chairs in Communication, with members in 73 countries. He also serves on different Boards and Audit Committees, including, after appointment by the Governor in Council, for the Council of Governors of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
