SURFnet

SURFnet operates the Netherlands' SURFnet5 research and education network, which links over 200 of the country's institutions. It consists of Cisco routers and a fibre optic infrastructure provided by BT Ignite. Its backbone includes four GSR routers interconnected at 10 Gbps, while its distribution network includes 15 primary points of presence (PoPs) and around ten secondary PoPs.

The network has two production links to the United States at 622 Mbps and, since January 2002, an experimental transparent lamba link to StarLight in Chicago. The North American Abilene and CA*net 4 networks are also connected to StarLight. Finally, SURFnet is connected to Europe's GEANT at 2.5 Gbps.
