Akamai Servers

Architecture at a glance

Serveurs AkamaiBased in Massachusetts, Akamai Corporation develops Internet traffic and performance optimization solutions with a global scope. The EdgePlatform service, the foundation of most of its solutions, consists of approximately 14,000 Akamai-controlled servers co-located with over 1,100 network operators in 65 countries. RISQ's Akamai servers.

Instead of always being sent from the same server, copies of Web pages, multimedia content and Web services or applications managed by Akamai are distributed to each of its partner networks. Requests coming from members of these networks are then redirected to the "local" copy instead of the original, thus ensuring optimum response time and reduced inter-network traffic–and lower commercial bandwidth costs.

Advantages for RISQ members

With 16 Akamai cache servers located at the RISQ Internet core, Akamai’s clients will be able to distribute their content more efficiently to RISQ members. So when users at connected institutions access content hosted on RISQ’s Akamai servers, the institution will not have to access the commercial Internet. This provides two significant advantages to members:

  • Financially significant savings on Internet bandwidth;
  • Excellent response times and download speeds.
